How to stop no-shows at salons and barbershops

No-shows are the quietest cost line in any salon. An appointment written in a notebook and never cancelled can't be resold: the chair stays empty and the day's revenue falls short.

The first fix is automated reminders. A WhatsApp or SMS reminder a day and an hour before the appointment noticeably reduces no-shows — as long as it includes a one-tap cancel/reschedule link so the slot can be resold.

The second is online booking. Customers who pick their own slot show up more reliably, and a booking link on your Instagram profile keeps taking reservations outside working hours.

The third is a deposit. For long treatments, a small prepayment almost eliminates no-shows — and it should be built into the booking flow, not a separate phone call.

The fourth is a waiting list: when someone cancels, notify the customers waiting for that slot and it usually fills the same day.

When choosing a system, insist on staff-level calendars, real service durations, customer history, automated reminders and revenue reports. Without those five, you've only digitised a notebook.
